Yocto Release Y2024.09

For the CPU NXP i.MX93 F&S offers a Yocto based environment. We offer the Linux BSP fsimx93-Y2024.09-pre, which is based on Yocto.

Our standard configuration, which is intended to give a first impression of the functionality of the board, includes the following features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, fbv, matchbox, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and many more.

The BSP is based on the following source code packages:

  • U-Boot: 2024.04
  • Linux-Kernel:  6.6.48
  • Yocto: 5.0.3 Scarthgap

Also included is our cross toolchain, some sample applications, and all binaries in the default configuration. 

F&S offer a virtual machine (based on VirtualBox) with an installed Linux based on the distribution Fedora 36 for free download. All packages necessary to compile our software are already installed. Also, all services (NFS, TFTP) for working with our boards are installed. Our BSP is unpacked and precompiled in the correct directories. With this virtual machine it doesn't matter if you use Windows or Linux as host. Simply download the VHD, import it into VirtualBox and development can begin immediately.

VirtualBox ist ein leistungsstarkes Produkt für Firmenkunden und gleichzeitig auch die einzige professionelle Lösung, welche als Open Source Software unter den Bedingungen der GNU General Public License Version 2 frei erhältlich ist.
Die F&S Development Machine enthält vorinstallierte Board Support Packages für fsimx8mm, fsimx8mn und fsimx8mp (64 bit CPU).
In der VHD ist die passende F&S Toolchain installiert, der Source Code ist extrahiert und gebrauchsfertig.
Erforderliche System Packages und notwendige Tools sind ebenfalls bereits installiert.
Des weiteren enthält es eine konfigurierte Umgebung für QT Entwicklung mit Cross-Compile/ Debug Kit, Deployment Strategy und Demoapplikation.

Computer on Module with NXP i.MX 93

Another member of the compact PicoCore™ Computer On Module product family is offered with NXP i.MX 93 CPU.
The form factor size of only 35 x 40mm enables use in compact housings. The module has excellent multimedia capabilities and reliability makes it ideal for machine learning and industrial IoT applications.

Heterogeneous Multicore Processor Concept

Starting from the i.MX 8M Mini CPU and i.MX 8M Plus CPU, NXP's i.MX93 CPU rounds out the i.MX8/ 9 CPU series.
Several additional features and interfaces have been added, such as machine learning, Cortex-M33, RGB, LVDS, and MIPI-DSI as display interfaces, and CAN-FD, to name a few.

The i.MX 93 is a heterogeneous multicore application processor for embedded modules. It is used on the PicoCore™ System on Module and is ideal for applications requiring high-performance graphics processing and multimedia functions, machine learning, and Industry 4.0 applications.

The processor consists of a single or dual ARM® Cortex®-A55 core running at up to 1.7 GHz and a Cortex®-M33 core for real-time processing at 250 MHz. The processor also features a Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
The i.MX 93 has various audio and speech functions.

Features and Interfaces

The PicoCore™MX93 has sufficient memory (RAM and eMMC Flash).
The module offers many interfaces on the 2x 100-pin connectors.
The PicoCore™MX93 has max. 2x Gigabit Ethernet (opt. RGMII), WIFI6, BT5.2, 1x USB Host 2.0, 1x USB Device OTG 2.0, max. 2x CAN-FD, max. 8x UART, max. 6x I2C, max. 8x SPI and Audio Line In/ Out/ Mic/ Headphone or I2S, additionally RTC, max. 4x PWM, SPDIF, ESAI, SAI, and SSI available.
An RGB, MIPI-DSI interface with 4 lanes or LVDS interfaces with 24 bits are available for controlling displays.
Touch panels can be connected externally via I2C.

Operating System

The operating system adapted for the PicoCore™MX93 is Linux. Linux Yocto supports all interfaces, ensuring easy software development without extensive hardware knowledge.
FreeRTOS is available to control the real-time kernel M33.
