Yocto and Buildroot

The Linux BSP (fsimx7ulp-B2019.02-pre) is based on Buildroot, a software to create root filesystems. Up to circa 1400 different software packages can be added menu-driven to the root filesystem. The functions range from libraries, tools and utilities to a complete Java environment and full graphic environments like Qt or X11. Even large applications such as a HTML5-capable web browser are part of Buildroot. This provides an easy way to build a customized Linux system. As alternative to Buildroot, there is also a Yocto based environment.

Our standard configuration should give you a first impression of the function range of the module, it contains among other features: Busybox, gdb, alsa-utils, gstreamer, fbv, X11R7, matchbox, feh, openssl, openssh, ncurses, can-utils, iproute2, ftpd, httpd, telnet, tftp, and more.

The BSP contains the F&S customized source code packages of U-Boot (2017.03), Linux Kernel (based on 4.9.88) and Buildroot (2018.08) or Yocto (2.4). We have also added our Cross-Toolchain, some example applications, and all Binaries in the standard configuration. Last but not least, it includes comprehensive hardware documents and a First-Steps documentation for an easy start.

F&S also offers a Virtual Machine (based on VirtualBox) with a fully working Fedora 23 Linux. All necessary services (NFS, TFTP) and all software packages required to compile our software are already installed. The BSP is unpacked and precompiled, too. No matter if you have a Windows or Linux PC, you just need to download this Virtual Machine Image, import it in VirtualBox and then you can immediately start developing your own applications under Linux.

VirtualBox is a high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2.
The F&S Development Machine contains installed Board Support Packages for fsimx6, fsimx6sx, fsimx6ul and fsimx6ulp.
The F&S toolchain is installed, the source code is extracted and ready to run. Needed system packages and essential tools are installed, too.
Besides that, it contains a configured environment for Qt development (QT5) with cross-compile/debug kit, deployment strategy and demo application.

Computer on Module with NXP i.MX 7ULP

The first member of the new and compact PicoCore™ Computer On Module product family is offered with NXP i.MX 7ULP ARM® CPU.
Further PicoCore™ COMs will folllow.
The size of 35 x 40mm only allows use in compact housings.

Heterogeneous Multicore Processor Concept

A NXP CPU with Dual-Core ARM® Cortex®-A7 with 800MHz and Cortex®-M4 Core is used. NXP pursues its heterogeneous concept with Linux on the ARM® Cortex®-A7 core and FreeRTOS on the ARM® Cortex®-M4 core.
The Cortex-M4 can be used for fast control and regulation functions or for processing fast interface protocols.
Both cores (A9 and M4) are connected to the internal bus fabric and have the possibility to access all peripherals.

The CPU offers 2D Graphics Accelerator for media applications.

The i.MX 7ULP stands for an extremely low power consumption and long battery life.
Targeted towards the growing market of portable devices.

It is very well suited for projects focusing on low size and energy consumption.

Power Consumption in Deep Power Down Mode is about 12mW only and in Run Mode (LCD on, Idle) about 280mW only.

PicoCore™MX7ULP comes with up to 1GB LPDDR3 RAM, 64MB SPI Flash and 32GB eMMC Flash.

Numerous Interfaces

The module offers interfaces such as WLAN, BT, 5x Serial, USB2.0 OTG and 3x I²C.

LCD TFTs can be connected via MIPI-DSI. Touch is available externally via I²C.

Operating System

The customized operating system Linux Yocto supports all interfaces, guaranteeing an easy software development without a deeper understanding of hardware.

Long-term Availability Up Until 2028
